Choosing the order method

The Order Method page decides how the WhatsApp button works alongside Shopify's own buy and checkout buttons. There are three modes.

Whichever mode you choose, keep this in mind: WhatsApp requests are messages sent in a chat. They don't create Shopify orders, take payment or reserve stock. Once the order is agreed in the chat, you need to create it in Shopify yourself, for example as a draft order.

Shopify + WhatsApp (default)

Shopify checkout stays as it is and the WhatsApp buttons appear as an extra option. This is the mode used on the Free plan and a good starting point for most stores.

WhatsApp first

The WhatsApp buttons are shown before the Shopify buttons and more prominently; the Shopify buttons stay visible. This mode is part of the Pro plan. You can select it on the Free plan, but your store keeps using Shopify + WhatsApp.

WhatsApp only

The Shopify buy and checkout buttons you select are hidden in supported theme areas. This mode is also part of the Pro plan. To turn it on:

1. Choose WhatsApp only in the Order mode list.
2. Tick the box confirming that WhatsApp requests don't create Shopify orders.
3. In Hide these Shopify elements, choose the buttons to hide.
4. Click Save.

If your theme isn't one of the verified themes, the elements are labeled Not verified. Hiding then only happens if you turn on the option at the bottom of the list to also hide areas that aren't verified for your theme. Test your store carefully after turning it on. If a WhatsApp button is missing, the Shopify button is shown again automatically, so shoppers never land on a page without a way to buy.

Which one should I pick?

If you're unsure, start with Shopify + WhatsApp and watch the clicks on the Analytics page for a few weeks. If WhatsApp requests grow, try WhatsApp first. We recommend WhatsApp only for stores that already run orders through chat and create the orders in Shopify themselves.
